PDP Moves to Stop Another Governor From Defecting to APC

Governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have held a meeting in Cross River state to stop the planned defection of Governor Ben Ayade to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ayade had complained about the injustices he was suffering from the national hierarchy as the leader of the party in the state.

This Day reported that the PDP delegation was led by the party's governors’ forum chairman, Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal.

Tambuwal was accompanied by the governor of Delta state, Ifeanyi Okowa, and his Enugu state counterpart, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

He told journalists after the meeting that the delegation was in Cross River to resolve a disagreement with stakeholders regarding the party’s congresses in the state.

According to The Nation, Tambuwal stated that the report of the meeting will be submitted to the PDP Governors’ Forum and the NWC for examination, deliberation, and action.

He expressed optimism that the issues in the party will soon be resolved.

Similarly, Governor Ayade disclosed via Twitter that the meeting was intended to resolve the crisis in the party.

He said:

''Today I received my brother Governors - Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto) Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta) in Calabar.
We had fruitful discussions on issues of common interest, including steps to resolve the crisis bedeviling our party.''

Legit.ng recalls that PDP recently lost Governor David Umahi who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Meanwhile, Ndudi Elumelu, the minority leader of the House of Representatives, has hinted at the possibility of the APC losing most of its legislators.

Elumelu made the revelation on Thursday, April 29, at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the PDP in Abuja, Leadership reports.

According to the PDP lawmaker, his APC counterparts are tired of the many failures of the ruling party and are ready to leave it anytime soon, Vanguard also reported.
