BREAKING: President Buhari Reconvenes High-Powered Security Meeting at Presidential Villa

President Muhammadu Buhari is presiding over a reconvened security meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, The Nation has reported.

The newspaper noted that the meeting is a continuation of the one which was summoned by President Buhari on Friday, April 30.

Nigerian Tribune noted that the meeting summoned to assess issues surrounding the nation’s worsening insecurity had ended without a conclusion last Friday but with a resolution to reconvene today to continue deliberation on Tuesday, May 4.

Legit.ng gathers that those present at the meeting are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha and Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari.

Others include Minister of Defence, Major-General Bashir Magashi (Rtd) and the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd.)

All the service chiefs and the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Baba are also in attendance.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported President Buhari stated that his government would not relent until it puts an end to the insecurity troubling the country.

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, stated this via a statement after the security council meeting convened by the president in Aso Rock on Friday, April 30.

He quoted the president to have said he is confident that the security agencies would restore the country’s glory.

In other related development, President Buhari has approved the establishment of a National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.

A statement from the presidency on Monday, May 3, noted that the centre would be domiciled in the Office of the National Security Adviser.

The new centre replaced the defunct Presidential Committee on Small Arms and Light Weapons.
