Insecurity: Pius Ayim Writes Buhari, Proposes Solution to Nigeria’s Challenges

- President Buhari has received unsolicited advice from a former president of the Senate

- According to Pius Ayim, the president should set up a commission of inquiry to find solutions to the insecurity challenges

The solution to Nigeria's security issues is not far-fetched, according to a former president of the Senate, Pius Ayim.

The former Senate president disclosed this in an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, May 3.

Ayim, according to Channels TV reports, urged Buhari to make history by setting up a commission of inquiry.

According to him, there is a need to look into the violent and non-violent agitations.

He said the commission should be empowered to make recommendations on the immediate – short-term and long-term – solutions to the insecurity challenges facing the country.

Ayim said with this, there will be a de-escalating of the rising tension in the land and lead to a process for the renewal of the march to nationhood.

Going further, he called on the federal government to make the process of finding a solution to Nigeria's government all-inclusive. He said it will be a mirage if people were not carried along.

He said:

“It can be argued that no other document in the history of Nigeria has had a far-reaching impact on our political structure than the Willink’s report."

Meanwhile, Legit reported that Buhari approved the establishment of a National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.

A statement from the presidency on Monday, May 3, noted that the centre would be domiciled in the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Legit.ng gathered that the new centre replaced the defunct Presidential Committee on Small Arms and Light Weapons.

Also, Legit.ng also reported that amid the incessant kidnappings and killings in Nigeria, President Buhari has stated that his government would not relent until it puts an end to the insecurity troubling the country.

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, stated this via a statement after a security council meeting convened by the president in Aso Rock.

Legit.ng gathered that he quoted the president to have said he is confident the security agencies would restore the country’s glory.
