Insecurity: Tears as 13 People Feared Dead in Fresh Benue Community Attack

Benue state has been plunged into mourning after an attack claimed the lives of at least 13 people in Tse-Amgbem community close to Aondoana in Gwer West local government area.

Channels TV reports that the attack, which was carried out by armed herders in the early hours on Monday, May 3, left many wounded.

Grace Igbabon, the chairperson of Gwer West local government confirmed the attack, Premium Times also reports.

Local residents who witnessed the tragic incident revealed that the assailants burnt down the houses in the community during the early morning attack.

The Benue police spokesperson, DSP Sewuese Anene said the attacks were true but could not give the exact figure of the casualty and extend of the damage at the community.

This development is coming almost a week after gunmen suspected to be armed herdsmen reportedly killed a man and his wife at Udei branch in Mbabai ward, Guma local government area of the state.

The man identified as Igba Faga and his wife were on Tuesday evening, April 27, macheted to death while returning from their farm on a motorbike.

The special adviser on security to the Benue state governor, Col. Paul Hemba (rtd), told newsmen in Makurdi on Wednesday, April 28, that suspected armed herders had laid ambush on the couple and hacked them to death on their way home from the farm.

In another report, the federal government has been accused of being bias in handling cases of attacks allegedly carried out by armed herdsmen in Nigeria.

The accusation was made by Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state on Wednesday, February 3, in reaction to the recent outcry about the herdsmen.

According to him, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government is failing to secure the country.
