Gareth Bale grabbed his first hat-trick since his return to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this season in their 4-0 triumph over relegated Sheffield United at White Hart Lane on Sunday, May 2.

It was a remarkable night for the 31-year-old whose contract expires at the end of this season after firing the North Londoners to fifth on the Premier League table.

He has now scored 14 goals and three assists in 30 appearances across competitions for Spurs despite getting the season off on a shaky note due to injury.

Apart from Bale who found the back of the net three times in the game, Heung-min Son also got himself on the scores sheet on matchday 34.

After the game, interim boss Ryan Mason was hailed for bringing back Tottenham’s traditional attacking style following the negative reign of their former boss Jose Mourinho.

Daily Star while quoting the Welshman after speaking to Sky Sports was perceived to have aimed a dig at the Portuguese-born manager, saying:

“(It's) the fact that we’re more on the front foot, we’re closer to the goal and you’re able to score more. We’re playing football the Tottenham way.”

The 58-year-old was shown the exit doors by Spurs following their poor run of results in all competitions as well as his treatment towards the Real Madrid on-loan star at the EPL club.

Bale said, looking to the future.

“I feel good, as I’ve said before I just needed to play games, to get a run of games and I’m doing that now. I’m happy and when I’m happy I normally play well.
“It was a great performance from the first whistle. I feel like we were on the front foot and we pressed well, got hold of the ball, played some good football. It’s always nice to get another (hat-trick) ball.

Son added some gloss to the scoreline late on as Spurs closed the gap on fourth-place Chelsea to just five points and kept their slim top-four hopes alive.
