- But, APC national leader, Bola Tinubu, has criticised these calls, saying it is a bad idea and should be rejected

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has kicked out calls for secession, saying Nigeria is better as one country than separated.

He warned those beating the drums of war to remember what such actions did to countries like Iraq and Sudan, TheCable reports.

The APC chieftain disclosed this while giving a speech at a special Ramadan prayer in Lagos on Sunday, May 2.

There have been calls for Nigeria to break up from some aggrieved citizens who are tired of the state of the nation.

But Tinubu is of the opinion that it is a bad idea as the nation cannot afford another war. He said Nigeria is still suffering the effects of the civil war.

According to him, if Nigeria breaks up, he has nowhere to go.

The APC leader stated:

“I have nowhere I am going. Whoever has experienced war in the past will not pray for such. Nigeria will not separate; it’s not acceptable to us. Our prayer is for prosperity and more wealth for the country.”

Tinubu hails Governor Sanwo-Olu

Tinubu also expressed his satisfaction with the administration of the governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, Premium Times reports.

According to him, their administration has performed so well since they came on board.

The Lagos state governor who hosted the Ramadan Tafsir thanked the Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheikh Oluwatoyin Abou-Nolla for his inspiring message of unity and peace.

He also used the opportunity to urge religious leaders to keep advising their congregants against acts that may breach public peace.

The Ramadan prayer was attended by political and business leaders such as Chief Bisi Akande, Tinubu, Oba Rilwan Akiolu and Aliko Dangote.

Sultan of Sokoto rejects calls for secession

Tinubu is not the only one against calls for secession, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, also thinks it is not the best solution to Nigeria's problems.

Legit.ng reported earlier that he said people calling for secession are not informed.

The Sultan warned against the division of Nigeria, adding that religious leaders and scholars must rise up in feeding their followers with truth and the true meaning of faiths they profess.
