Breaking: Over 12 Gunmen Arrested in Connection to Attacks on Police Stations in Imo

An investigation carried out by Vanguard Newspaper on Saturday, May 1, has revealed that security operatives have arrested over twelve unknown gunmen in Imo state.

According to the report, the suspects were linked to the series of attacks on police facilities in the southeast state and Owerri Correctional Center.

The arrests began four days ago with the bursting of one of their camps in Oguta local government area by security operatives followed by arrests in Ihitte Uboma LGA.

The arrested suspected was identified as Izuchukwu Ohaeri from Isiwenke, Amakohia of Imo state.

The 31-year-old was apprehended in Ihitte Uboma local government area on Saturday, April 17, according to a police source.

Speaking to the newspaper, the source claimed that Ohaeri is a strong member of the group who has been killing personnel of security agencies.

It was gathered that more arrests have been made in their different camps and meeting venue where the gunmen carry out their operations.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that gunmen on Tuesday, April 6 burnt down the Ehime Mbano local government area divisional police headquarters in Imo state.

According to the report, the attack came hours after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, and other government functionaries visited the state.

On arrival, the gunmen reportedly freed all the suspects in detention before setting the facility ablaze without any resistance from policemen.

In a related development, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo state in a message to security agencies like the police and DSS stated that the names of politicians sponsoring banditry in Nigeria should be published.

The governor made this declaration after he met President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja.

Speaking on the recent attack on federal prison and police headqauters in Owerri, Uzordimma said about 50 suspects have been arrested in connection with the attacks.
