Insecurity: Katsina Emirate Suspends Traditional Ruler, Gives Reason

- Katsina Emirate Council has warned traditional rulers in Katsina to stop supporting criminals

- The council stated that any traditional ruler found culpable of criminality will face justice

- Many states in the northern parts of Nigeria are facing attacks from bandits

A traditional ruler in Katsina state, the Sarkin Pauwan Katsina, Yusuf Lawal, has been suspended over alleged involvement in aiding and abating banditry activities in his domain.

Katsina Emirate Council disclosed in a statement that the suspension of the district head of Kankara is with immediate effect.

According to The Punch, the spokesman for the Katsina Emirate Council, Iro Bindawa, confirmed the development.

He said:

''Yes, the district head has been suspended and he is currently under investigation. The outcome of the investigation will determine the next line of action to be taken by the Emirate.”

Meanwhile, bandits have killed 323 persons while 949 others were abducted by the gunmen in Kaduna state in the last three months.

The Kaduna state government made the disclosure on Friday, April 30, when giving a breakdown of data obtained from a security report in the state, The Cable reported.

Samuel Aruwan, the commissioner for internal security and home affairs, who shared the data said most of the casualties were male while some were women and children.

In another news, a report by Daily Trust indicates that Auwal Daudawa, the bandit leader behind the Kankara abduction of Kankara schoolboys in Katsina state, has been shot dead by a rival gang.

Legit.ng gathered that Daudawa met his death four days after he renounced his earlier repentance and returned to the forest.

The newspaper said that sources noted that Daudawa was shot dead during a gun duel with a rival gang at Dumburum forest located between Zurmi local government in Zamfara state and Batsari local government in Katsina state, on the evening of Friday, April 30.

Still on security, President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that his government would not relent until it puts an end to the insecurity troubling the country.

Premium Times reported that the National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, stated this via a statement after a security council meeting convened by the president in Aso Rock.

Monguno quoted the president to have said he is confident that the security agencies would restore the country’s glory.
