Insecurity: Buhari Makes Fresh Promise to Nigerians, Gives Service Chiefs New Mandate

Amid the incessant kidnappings and killings in Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that his government would not relent until it puts an end to the insecurity troubling the country.

Premium Times reports that the National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, stated this via a statement after a security council meeting convened by the president in Aso Rock.

Legit.ng gathered that he quoted the president to have said he is confident that the security agencies would restore the country’s glory.

Recalls that Buhari held a meeting with the nation’s heads of security agencies on Friday, April 30, amid heightened insecurity across all zones of the country.

According to the report, apart from attacks on civilians, security agencies have also been targeted lately with many killed and properties destroyed.

President Buhari, in the statement, stressed that Nigeria and its citizens would defeat all forces of evil.

Monguno said:

"At today’s meeting, the president made it abundantly clear that while the insurgents, bandits and criminals are still at it, he has no doubt that the Nigerian security agencies and all of us as a nation would certainly overcome all the current security problems and defeat the forces of evil marauding about in different parts of the country."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, commenced the overhauling and strengthening the security and policing architecture in Anambra state and other states of the southeast and south-south geo-political zones of the country.

It was reported that as part of the process, the IGP ordered the posting of Christopher Owolabi as the new commissioner of police of the Anambra police command.

The spokesperson for the police, Frank Mba, in a statement sent to Legit.ng on Friday, April 30, said the redeployment is ultimately designed to improve the operational efficiency of the commands and enhance public safety and security.

In a related report, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu reacted over kidnappings and killings of innocent Nigerians by the bandits.

In a thread of tweets on his Twitter page, @AsiwajuTinubu, on Thursday, April 29, the APC leader said he was troubled by the terror and cruelty being visited upon the people particularly in Borno, Yobe, Benue, Niger, and Imo states.
