5. N’Golo Kante – SM Caen to Leicester City - £5.6 million

Kanté only played for Leicester during the 2015-16 season, but what a season it was. The low transfer fee for a player who became the midfield lynchpin and arguably most important player for Leicester’s historic Premier League title makes this transfer one of a kind.

Other bargains on that Leicester team, Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez had longer stints at Leicester, but they were purchased when the club was in the Championship.

Despite the historic goal-scoring of Vardy and trickery on the wing from Mahrez, Kanté won the Leicester City player of the season award, given to him by his teammates.

After the league title, Leicester sold Kanté to Chelsea for £32 million, nearly six times what they had paid for him. It’s a testament to the Frenchman’s quality that this much larger fee could also be considered a bargain after he helped Chelsea win a league title the next season.

4. Sergio Aguero - Atletico Madrid to Manchester City - £35 million

Compared to Kanté, this one comes at a much steeper price, especially considering it was in 2011, but the Argentine striker was worth every pound.

At Manchester City, Agüero became one of the Premier League’s top goal scorers and lifted the club to greatness.

He has been an integral part of four Manchester City titles and produced one of the most legendary moments in Premier League history in his first season at the club. In the last game during the dying seconds against QPR, Agüero won the title with a beautiful strike that has been immortalized by the accompanying commentary of “AGUEROOOOOOOOOOO!”

3. Cristiano Ronaldo - Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United - £12.2 million

At the time of this transfer, Ronaldo was the most expensive teenager in history, so the young Portuguese forward had a lot on his plate. And live up to expectations he certainly did.

What was the most expensive transfer for a teenager quickly became a steal for United. In six seasons at the club, Ronaldo cemented his status as a club legend and built his legacy, which he would later further in Madrid and Italy.

In his time at the club, United won three Premier League titles and a Champions League, but most importantly United fans can say with some confidence that they got to see the best player in the world play for their team.

2. Frank Lampard – West Ham to Chelsea - £14.4 million

Despite his time at other clubs, if you think of Chelsea, you think of Frank Lampard. Despite his lack of success during his stint managing the club, Chelsea faithful still remember Lampard as their biggest success in the Premier League era.

A goal-scoring machine from the midfield, Lampard put away an unheard-of 22 goals in one Premier League season for Chelsea. His goal-scoring prowess leaves him at 5th all-time in goals scored in the Premier League, the highest midfielder by far.

Three Premier League titles, a slew of FA Cups, and a Champions League win make Lampard one of the most decorated Premier League players of all time.

1. Thierry Henry – Juventus to Arsenal - £14.5 million

The best team in Premier League history, Arsenal’s 2003-2004 Invincibles squad, deserves to have a player on this list. It could have gone to Dennis Bergkamp or Patrick Viera, but in the end, it has to be the French forward.

Henry struggled at Juventus and did not have an amazing goal-scoring record at Monaco before he came to London. But Henry quickly put any fears to rest when he notched 17 goals in his first season, at that point a career-high.

Year after year, he proved it wasn’t a fluke and scored more and more goals, finishing at an amazing 174 goals in 254 Premier League appearances.

Legit.ng earlier reported that no fewer than 500 away fans are expected at various Premier League match venues for the last two games this season.

Football supporters have been denied access to watch their favourite clubs play live since March 2020 owing to the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus.

However, with the vaccination programs currently going on across the country, the UK government is willing to allow about 10,000 fans into the stadia for just two games.
