At every gathering of journalists, what you hear from the host is the phrase 'gentlemen of the press' when addressing the media even when there are ladies in their midst.

Although women now have a significant presence in the media industry, they still face some challenges like gender inequalities, under-representation where senior leadership, decision-making positions are made the birthrights of men.

At Legit.ng, we strive to give equal opportunities to reveal writer's talent no matter their gender, either male or female.

Nkem worked as an intern for Treasure FM Port Harcourt. As a young girl still trying to find her feet in the “media world”, she also spent some time at the News Agency of Nigeria where she worked closely with some senior reporters.

She has been at Legit.ng since 2013, where she started as an editor writing about relationships, current affairs, and other viral topics. She’s now a copy editor who also writes for the politics and current affairs desk on weekends.

With almost 20 years of experience as an entertainment and lifestyle journalist in both print and digital journalism, Sola got her start in journalism with Nigeria’s number one celebrity magazine, City People, as an entertainment journalist covering celebrity news, lifestyle, and conducting interviews. She later rose to combine society reporting. She won awards as Most Hardworking Staff and Best Staff of the Year in 2005.

Sola later worked with a South Africa-based celebrity magazine, Montage Africa, and later Firstly Weekly Magazine, High Society Magazine, and Newswatch Daily before working with PRM Africa, the organiser of AFRIMA awards, as the public relations manager.

Sola, with her wealth of experience, joined Legit.ng in 2015 as a senior content editor and rose to become a copy editor, pioneer head of Diaspora/Human Interest desk. She is currently the head of Gossip and Entertainment desk.

She, recently, got a certificate for Outstanding Achievements in Entertainment Desk Management from Legit (ex-GMEM).

She is a wife and a mother.

Taiwo Owolawi

Taiwo is a content editor and has been covering celebrity news for close to three years with Legit.ng after initially coming in as an intern for six months in the same organisation.

This includes reporting on popular music and movie award shows such as the AMVCA, Headies, to name a few.

Taiwo sometimes focuses on the fashion and lifestyle of these stars. She also co-hosted Facebook live series such as Aproko Corner and Entertainment Gist. She has been able to meet deadlines while still producing quality work.

After closing hours, Taiwo focuses her time on learning on social media, reading, and taking online courses about arts and crafts.

Oluwatobi Bolashodun

She worked as an entertainment and society reporter with Encomium Magazine before joining Legit.ng in 2015.

Temitope started writing at the tender age of 12 and developed her talent as she grew. Having acknowledged the fact that writing would always be a part of her, this smart hardworking lady made a quick switch from sciences to journalism. Being a master's degree holder didn't deter her from pursuing a postgraduate degree in broadcast journalism.

Olorunnisola (Sola Oloruni) Abe holds a post-graduate degree in broadcast journalism and has over four years of experience in championing gender equality.

As an editor at Legit.ng, Sola curates, writes exclusives and publishes quality entertainment stories. She, recently, got an award for Proficiency in Exclusive Entertainment Writing.

She has written articles and interviewed women with strong developmental and influential stories that generated conversations and inspired positive changes.

In 2018, a book featuring her article on FGM in Nigeria was launched at the 73rd United Nations General Assembly and distributed to representatives from other African countries as a model to work with.

Sola trains and facilitates projects that push for SDG 3 on healthy living for all. In doing so, she visits schools to speak to underprivileged girls about menstrual hygiene management, ensuring that hundreds of young girls are not deprived of their educational rights simply because they are going through one of the most important phases of their development.

In 2020, she was selected as one of the 300 Young Leaders of Women Deliver, a leading global advocate that champions gender equality and the health and rights of girls and women.
