The governor of Kano, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has stated that with the alarming level of corruption bedevilling Nigeria, progress and development will be impossible.

Daily Trust reports that Governor Ganduje, represented by Alhaji Usman Alhaji, the secretary to the state government, disclosed this at the inauguration of an eight-man Anti-Corruption Strategy Steering Committee on Thursday, April 29.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governor admitted:

“Believe me, we don’t need to say that corruption in this country is killing all of us. The truth of the matter is that we will never develop or progress with this level of corruption in this country."

He disclosed that one of the ways his administration is seriously tackling graft in the state is by strengthening the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), The Cable also reported.

Ganduje said it is hoped that the committee will inspire the people to believe in the government's ability to end injustice and corruption.

His words:

“So, I urge the committee to bring out the strategies whereby the people of Kano state would have the benefit of hope to complain when the need arises, and get amicable settlement.

“Whether it is against the government or government officials, the complaints could be looked into and sorted out.”

Earlier, the Singaporean non-profit group, Chandler Good Government Index, CGGI had ranked Nigeria as the third-worst governed country in the world.

The report ranked Nigeria very low in governance, leadership, and foresight, scoring the country 102 out of 104 countries with a score of 0.319 points, ahead of Zimbabwe and Venezuela.
