Breaking: At Last, Fate Turns Against Bandits as Vigilante Groups in Oyo Nab 11 Suspects, Release Names

- Eleven bandits met their waterloo in Oyo on Thursday, April 29

- The suspects who are notorious for attacking travellers were nabbed for mounting illegal checkpoints at strategic parts of highways

Operatives of the Oyo State Security Network Agency nabbed not less than 11 bandits on Thursday, April 29, for attacking passengers in parts of the state with illegal arms.

According to the commandant of the OSSNA, Col Olayinka Olayanju, six of the bandits were arrested in Kajola local government area while five others were nabbed in Saki East LGA for mounting illegal roadblocks, PM News reports.

Olayanju stated:

“They were arrested in separate incidents following encounters at two illegally mounted roadblocks. They tried to escape from the scene but were given hot pursuit by the operatives as they tried to evade arrest.

“We are still on the trail of others who managed to escape from the scene. The bandits namely Awali Atine, Ibrahim Abu, Shuaib Balau, Ibrahim Musa, Abdullah Masika and Umar Aliu Masika."

He noted that the bandits' method of attack is to pretend to be herdsmen in the day and attack innocent passengers on the highways at night, adding that a total of 183 cows, N268,470.00, and some weapons were recovered from them, Nigerian Tribune also reported.

The commandant revealed that the suspects have all been handed over to the Nigeria Police Okeho Divisional HQ.

Meanwhile, the governor of Ondo, Rotimi Akeredolu, had confessed that Nigeria's security apparatus cannot effectively deal with the twin scourge of banditry and terrorism which is fast ravaging the nation.

Governor Akeredolu on Wednesday, April 28, admitted this during a webinar that reflected on the turnout of events which followed the EndSARS protests across the country.

Akeredolu, also the chairman of the southwest governors' forum, noted that having a single police force that oversees and addresses Nigeria's daunting security challenges was simply not enough.
