IPOB lands Channels TV in trouble as NBC orders suspension of ‘Politics Today’

- One of Channels TV programmes have been suspended by the federal government through National Broadcasting Commission

- NBC accused the TV station of allowing a member of IPOB to make inciting statements in a live broadcast

- The media regulatory commission also slammed a fine of N5million on the station

In what will bring about diverse reactions from Nigerians, Channels Television, has been fined by the federal government.

This follows the suspension slammed on the station's ‘Politics Today’ programme by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

Channels Television's crime was that it spoke with members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Vanguard reports.

The suspension was contained in a letter to the managing director of Channels Television signed by the Acting director-general of NBC, Prof. Armstrong Idachaba, Daily Nigerian added.

The commission also hit the station with a fine of N5 million for breaching the broadcast code.

Specifically, Channels Television's 7pm live broadcast programme of Sunday, April, 25, was the cause of the suspension.

The NBC fauted the station of allowing a leader of IPOB to make secessionist and inciting declarations on air without caution or reprimand by the station contrary to the broadcast code.

It also accused the station of allowing the guest speaker to make derogatory, false and misleading statements about the Nigerian army, despite being proscribed by a court of law.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Samson Ayokunle, the national president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has said that unemployment is the reason for the increase in banditry across the states of the country.

Ayokunle, who also doubles as the president of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), said unemployment is more worrying because it gives room for evil.

Legit.ng gathered that the CAN president made this revelation known while announcing that thousands would converge on the Baptist International Conference Centre (BICC) for the 108th session of the NBC.
