BREAKING: Gunmen Reportedly Invade Military Lodge, Kill Soldiers in Fresh Rivers Attack

- Some soldiers in the Abia Local government area of Rivers were reportedly killed on Monday, April 26

- The soldiers were shot dead by some gunmen while they were in their military lodge

- The attack came on the heels of a recent raid at checkpoints manned by soldiers in the state

A disturbing report claim that an armed gang on Monday, April 26, killed about five soldiers in Omelema community in the Abia Local government area of Rivers state.

Punch reported that the gunmen who came from a river marched straight to a military lodge in the area and opened fire on soldiers, killing about two of them immediately.

However, the tragic development is yet to be confirmed by Major Charles Ekeocha, the spokesman for the 6 Division, Nigeria Army Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Earlier, an attack on police and military checkpoints had been recorded again in Nigeria.

Legit.ng reported that gunmen attacked the checkpoints along the Owerri-Port Harcourt Road in Ikwerre local government area, Rivers state.

The gunmen launched the attacks around 8 pm on Saturday, April 24. The newspaper reports that four policemen and two soldiers were killed in the attack.

It was gathered that four policemen and two soldiers were killed in the attack.

Meanwhile, the governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi, had said the attacks on police formations in the southeast zone were carried out by criminals and bandits. Umahi made the statement on Tuesday, April 20, in Abakaliki, the state capital.

Due to security reasons, he told herdsmen to stay away from the state for now. He stated that many herdsmen have left the state of their own volition. The governor denied evicting the herders from Ebonyi.

Umahi said:

“We didn’t ask them to leave. They left on their own, which means they were privy to the attacks on Ebonyi state.
“There is high tension. We have sent text messages to Myetti Allah that Ebonyi state is under tension and we would not want them to still stay until such a time that the state is safe.”
