FG Promises to Continue Payment of N50,000 COVID-19 Grant to Nigerians

Nigerians seem to be in luck as the federal government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari is set to continue making life easy for them.

This follows the federal government's decision to allow the continuation of its grant of N50,000, Channels TV reports.

Daily Times added that the money which is under the government’s Survival Fund initiative is part of government efforts to reduce the harsh impact of the coronavirus pandemic on Nigerians.

Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) are entitled to a grant of N50,000 as part of the initiative.

The government's payroll support track of the programs also aims to support 500,000 businesses with payment of up to N50,000 per employee for a period of three months.

Also, artisans and transport business operators are being supported with a one-time grant of N30,000.

Speaking on the development, State House spokesman, Laolu Akande, revealed that 319,755 Nigerians have already benefited from the payroll support track.

He added that 265,425 Nigerians have benefited under the Artisan and Transport Support track.

The scheme is also helping small businesses register with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Connected Development, Hamzat Lawal, faulted the manner the federal government handled COVID-19 palliatives.

Connected Development is a non-government organization (NGO) whose mission is to empower marginalised communities in Africa.

Hamzat stated that citizens at the grassroots only hear about palliatives on the TV or radio but do not receive any economic assistance on the ground.

He said some citizens who were beneficiaries of the federal government social schemes such as conditional transfer and homegrown school feeding programme received less than what they were expected to get.
