Gunmen Invade Federal University, Kidnap Students on Campus

- Bandits have targeted another academic institution in northern Nigeria

- Authorities of the Federal University of Agriculture in Makurdi (FUAM) disclosed how the students were abducted

- The police have not yet arrested any suspect over the incident

Some students of the Federal University of Agriculture in Makurdi (FUAM) in Benue state have reportedly been abducted by gunmen.

Daily Trust reported that the abduction which occurred on Sunday night, April 25, has been confirmed by the school authorities.

The publication stated that an unspecified number of students were taken away at gunpoint by the kidnappers.

TVC News reported that Rosemary Waku, a spokesperson for the institution in a statement disclosed that the matter has been reported to the police.

The statement from her read:

''An unconfirmed number of students of FUAM were abducted at gunpoint by unknown persons from the Campus on Sunday 25th April, 2021.

“The University has reported the incident to the police and all relevant security agencies.
''The University has not heard anything from the students or their captors since the unfortunate incidence took place.”

This latest incident comes just days after bandits abducted students of a private university in Kaduna state, the Green Field University.

Meanwhile, the bandits behind the abduction of some students of Greenfield University have reportedly contacted their parents and demanded a collective ransom of N800 million.

The Nation reported that the bandits threatened to kill the students if the ransom is not paid, noting that negotiation of the ransom was already ongoing.

The newspaper added that a cousin to one of the kidnapped students, Georgina Stephen, confirmed the development.

According to her, the kidnappers have been beating the abducted students, insisting if the ransom is not paid they will kill all of them.

In a related report, the identities of the three Greenfield University students in Kaduna who were slain in captivity by bandits have been revealed.

PM News reported that one of the murdered students is Abubakar Sadiq Yusuf Sanga, the son of Malam Yusuf Mu’azu, a director of the state's ministry of works and a former chairman of Jemaa local government area.

Sadiq, in line with Islamic burial rites, was laid to rest on Friday, April 23, the same day he was killed.
