Second Championship Club to Be Promoted After Norwich City Confirmed

- Watford join Norwich City back in the Premier League, barely a year after they were relegated

Watford sealed promotion back to the Premier League on Saturday, April 24 after a narrow victory over Milwall in the Championship.

Senegalese winger Ismaila Sarr slotted in a composed penalty in the 11th minute in the only goal of the game as the Hornets joined Norwich City back in the top flight.

Milwall had their moments, with Billy Mitchell drawing a smart save from keeper Daniel Bachmann with a brilliant shot from outside the box.

Despite consistent attacks from Milwall, Watford held on for the win to secure their eighth straight victory at Vicarage road.

The win meant Watford followed their counterparts Norwich City in gaining instant promotion back to the Premier League after relegation last season.

Norwich City’s resurgence this season has been largely because of the balance between defence and attack.

For Watford, however, one of their biggest weapons this campaign has been their home form as they have been unplayable at Vicarage Road the entire season.

Xisco Munoz's side is currently enjoying one of the best home forms in the club’s history since 1997, and they registered their 18th home win of the campaign with victory over Milwall.

Also, unlike Norwich City who have had some degree of stability after keeping hold of most of their stars and manager Daniel Farke, Watford’s surge back to the Premier League has been anything but straight forward.

After the dismissal of Nigel Pearson last season, Hayden Mullins oversaw the remainder of last season on an interim basis.

Vladimir Ivic was then appointed to attempt to help the club back to the top flight in August 2020, and relegation saw Watford lose some big names like Abdoulaye Doucoure, Gerard Deulofeu and Roberto Pereyra.

Ivic however only lasted for 20 games and was eventually dismissed with the club in fifth place, only two points off automatic promotion places.

Notably, the Serbian coach had a falling out with striker Troy Deeney and was replaced by Munoz and the Spaniard manager to turn numerous of Watford’s draws into wins.

From tame attacks in the first half of the season, the Spaniard has transformed the Hornets into a potent team with the likes of Sarr, Brazilian teenager Joao Pedro and Sweden winger Ken Sema leading the line up front.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Premier League club Liverpool failed to move into the top four after failing to hold onto their lead as Newcastle deny the Reds all three points at Anfield.
