The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa state on Thursday, April 22 declared its readiness to recall a member of the House of Assembly representing Brass Constituency 1, Daniel Charles.

The party says it is taking the decision over the lawmaker's defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The APC, through the chairman in Brass local government area, Baribote Solomon, described the defection as an act of desperation and selfishness.

The Nation quoted him as saying the party would begin the process of Charles’ recall because it owns the ticket, adding that despite the claims of division by the lawmaker as the reason for his defection, Bayelsa APC is intact and united.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna state chapter of the APC has organised a written examination for their chairmanship aspirants as a condition for qualification to contest election into the chairmanship position of the local government.

The aspirants were equally subjected to physical and oral interviews by a panel of 17 members made up of professors, lawyers, and holders of doctorate degrees among others.

Leadership reports that the place was filled to capacity with aspiring chairmen and supporters anxiously waiting for their turns to be screened after the examination.

In a related development, ahead of the 2023 General Elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reorganised some of its departments.

INEC national commissioner and chairman information and voter education committee, Festus Okoye, said this on Thursday, April 22 according to Daily Trust.

According to him, as the commission prepares for major off-cycle governorship elections and the 2023 general election, it has become imperative to review and realign some of its departments for improved effectiveness and efficient management of its human resources and assets.

He added that the commission is also determined to proactively communicate its policies and programmes to Nigerians and effectively engage and mainstream women’s groups, persons living with disability, and other marginalized individuals in the electoral process.

However, as INEC prepares for future elections, a lot of stakeholders in Nigeria are becoming increasingly sceptical about the possibility of achieving a free, fair, and credible election in 2023 amidst the worsening security situation in the country.

With the current trend of insecurity in the different geo-political zones of the country, there is a general apprehension that things could get worse before the next election.
