Zamfara Killings Worse than Yemen, Afganistan Massacres, Shehu Sani Weeps

- Shehu Sani has lent his voice to the attacks by bandits in Zamafara

Known to be an outspoken social commentator, Shehu Sani, a former senator representing Kaduna Central, has raised concerns over the recent killings in Zamfara.

The former lawmaker expressed deep regret that not less than 60 residents in the state were murdered by gunmen in just one day.

Sani, comparing the statistics to what is obtainable outside Nigeria, claimed that it is worse than the carnages in Yemen and Afghanistan put together.

His words:

"Sixty people massacred in 13 Zamfara communities in One day. Not even in Yemen or Afghanistan can this scale of carnage happen in recent times. My condolences to the families of the victims."

Earlier, Governor Bello Matawalle on Thursday ordered the immediate closure of four markets.

In a statement released by the office of the governor, the affected markets were Dansadau Market in Maru local government, Dauran Market in Zurmi LGA.

The rest are Magami and Wanke Markets in the Gusau local government area of the state.

Referring to the incident as inhuman, Matawalle expressed sadness over the havoc wreaked by the criminals.

The governor lamented:

“It is sad and condemnable the act of terrorism targeted at law-abiding citizens who have been contributing to the development of the state in particular and the country in general.
“We as government are disturbed by the senseless killings, maiming and general destruction of lives and property of the mostly farming communities.”

Recall that the state was thrown into deep mourning by some suspected armed bandits who launched multiple attacks in six communities on Wednesday, April 21, killing at least 45 people.

Dozens of people including women and children are missing in the aftermath of the attacks. Legit.ng gathered that the bandits also razed down shops and public and private buildings.

The affected communities are in Magami District of Gusau local government area, namely; Yar Doka, Kango, Ruwan Dawa, Madaba, Arzikin Da and Mairairai.
