Taiwo Barakat was making ends meet as a hairdresser before she embarked on a trip to Saudi Arabia.

The 25-year-old in an exclusive interview with Legit.ng stated that she was trafficked into the country by a man named Anuoluwapo who had sweet-tongued her with promises of a better life. He said she could make money working as a maid there or better still, as a hairdresser.

Anuoluwapo offered to help her enter Canada through Saudi Arabia. Riding on the back of assurances from the agent, her parents were said to have sold their land and motorbike to fund the trip.

Her husband also consented but what the mother-of-one experienced was a far cry from what was painted to her.

According to her, she was kept in a room along with other girls and moved from one place to the other.

Taiwo stated that she was eventually handed over to a family to work as a housemaid but was maltreated by her boss who made advances at her.

When his overtures were turned down, he allegedly handed her to the police on trumped-up charges. Taiwo - who mostly spoke in Yoruba - said she spent a month in police custody and was moved from there to prison.

Taiwo narrated that her boss wanted her dead but as God would have it, she returned to her family, though, with nothing.
