How we Tracked 6,000 AK-47 Arms Used by Syndicate from Oyo to Burkina Faso - Police

- The number of illegal arms syndicate members is constantly being reduced by the Nigerian police

- Recent information reveals that not less than 6,000 AK-47 ammunition were recovered by the police

- This was disclosed by Frank Mba, the spokesman of the force on Thursday, April 22

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has revealed one of its great victories illegal arms dealers who operate between Nigeria and Burkina Faso.

Frank Mba, the spokesman of the NPF, told journalists that the police force carried out the feat with the help of international security agencies one of which is INTERPOL, The Cable reports.

Mba revealed that the criminals made use of Nigerian borders as their hiding places, but added that the police are doing their utmost to makes the hotspots are dismantled.

He noted that with a better understanding of international dimensions of arms trafficking, the force is major in tracking and dismantling arms smuggling syndicates.

The police mouthpiece added that in one of its operations, the police were able to identify members of a syndicate from Oyo state to Burkina Faso.

His revelation:

“We’ve also come to understand very clearly the international dimensions of arms trafficking, and that’s why we are focusing on identifying, investigating, and dismantling international arms smuggling syndicates.
“We have done that successfully from 2019 till now; in fact, for one of the syndicates, we tracked all the way from Saki in Oyo state through to Benin Republic, followed their route up to Burkina Faso, and picked up every single person involved."

Meanwhile, some unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers had abducted three construction workers in Akoko northwest local government area of Ondo state.

The construction workers were said to be among those rehabilitating Ikaram to Akunnu road in the area.
