Seat of Speaker Burnt to Ashes as Fire Guts Newly Renovated Katsina House of Assembly

Katsina state government will be coughing out millions of naira to fix the House of Assembly following a recent fire Fire that gutted the chamber.

It was gathered that the chamber was recently renovated by the Katsina government.

Channels TV reports that the fire was put out by the joint efforts of firefighters and security agents stationed at the State House of Assembly.

It added that no life was lost in the incident.

Speaking on the development, the deputy chief whip of the House, Salisu Rimaye, said that no one can actually say the real cause of the incident.

According to him, the fire incident was discovered when the sergeant at arm was instructed to go and clean up the chamber.

Going further, he said efforts are ongoing to ascertain the real cause of the fire. He also claimed that the issue might have been caused by electrical appliances especially the air conditioner left on.

Sahara Reporters added that the seat of the speaker was completely burnt to ashes.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that heavily armed gunmen kidnapped about 15 passengers along the Tsakskiya-Ummadau road in Safana local government area of Katsina state.

The passengers were travelling in a commercial vehicle with registration number KZR 345ZT, when they were ambushed by the bandits on Sunday, April 11.

An eyewitness, Aliyu Rumawa, disclosed that the bus was returning from Jibia market when the incident occurred.

In another report, the Katsina government commenced the construction of the over N900 million Jibia-Jibiyar Maje-Tashar Aibo road which will connect the northwest state to Maradi in the Niger Republic.

Officials of the two countries met at Jibia to signify the start of the three kilometres road project which the Katsina governor Aminu Bello Masari promised to undertake on behalf of the state government.

Biyaminu Muhammad Albaba, the permanent secretary, Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport, in the state, said the governor decided to embark on the road project to provide easy linkage between the communities along the borders and boost economic and social activities amongst them.
