The jersey is expected to fetch an eyewatering £146,000 (about N77million). The Sun reports the shirt is being put up for auction by the family of an Argentine journalist who received it as a gift from the Argentina manager, Cesar Luis Menotti.

Despite auctioneers of the jersey commanding a massive fee for it, reports suggest it will not fall short of potential buyers, with wealthy football fans expected to clamour for it.

It is understood it already had an opening bid of £45,000 (about N24million) but higher bids are expected going forward.

Maradona made Argentina's debut in June 1982 during a World Cup group stage match against Belgium.

Whereas the south American nation went on to lose the match by a solitary goal, the forward evidenced flashes of brilliance during the tie.

Argentina did not win the competition that year, with Italy emerging victors of the global extravaganza.

However, Maradona's national team went on to lay their hands on the coveted trophy in the 1986 edition, all thanks to the footie's controversial "Hand of God" against England.

The decision to sell the shirt came months after the death of the soccer legend after he suffered a heart attack.

The former Napoli star passed away aged 60, with his death sparking glowing tributes.

The 37-year-old defender spent eight seasons at the Nou Camp where he was able to play with the two exceptional stars.

The current Sao Paulo player while responding to questions during a question-and-answer session on Instagram, he insisted that Neymar remains the most skillful player out there.
