Sheffield United have officially been relegated from the Premier League following their defeat to Wolves on Saturday, April 17.

Willian Jose's 59th goal at Molineuxwas the only difference in the match, and the result meant Sheffield cannot mathematically survive even with six matches left to end the season.

Their drop to the Championship next season came after spending two campaigns in the English top-flight.

The Blades have been poor all season, managing just 14 points from 32 rounds of matches.

They have racked up just four wins and two draws, with all other fixtures ending in humiliating defeats.

The Bramall Lane-based club picked another routine defeat last weekend against Newcastle United and therefore needed a win against Wolves to delay their relegation date.

Speaking on their relegation, new manager Paul Heckingbottom hailed his side for a spirited fight in the EPL, insisting the results are not a reflection of their general performances. He said:

"It’s about results isn’t it. The only thing we can control is the performance. We have to go out with our head held high. I think we should have certainly got something from the game. It probably typifies our season.
"You only have to look at the physical data from the Premier League this season. It’s not through a lack of effort. They will give everything and you saw it again tonight. It was that one moment."

Heckingbottom, who replaced Chris Wilde as manager in March has suffered defeats in every game since.

Wilde parted ways with Sheffield to bring to an end his five-year spell at the club.

Meanwhile, the club's relegation was marked with Norwich City's promotion back to the Premier League.

Norwich defeated Bournemouth 3-1 on Saturday to make a return to the top-flight following Swansea's draw with Wycombe and Brentford's stalemate against Millwall.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not giving up yet on this season’s Premier League title as he stated that the Red Devils can still win the title.

United who host Burnley on Sunday afternoon are 11 points behind neighbours and rivals Manchester City, but Solskjaer believes stranger things have happened in football.
