Katsina: 30 Suspected Bandits Killed by Residents, Local Vigilante

- Tired of the repeated attacks in their community, some villagers killed armed bandits who were on the way to their domain to cause havoc

- The villagers were assisted by their local vigilante mandated to guide them against criminal elements

- About a month ago, a similar situation occurred in neighbouring Zamfara state

An exclusive report by Daily Trust indicates that at least 30 suspected bandits have been killed in Kankara local government area of Katsina state.

According to the report, the armed criminals were killed by residents and local vigilantes of Majifa village in the area.

The villagers were said to have laid an ambush for the gunmen in the early hours of Monday, April 12.

A resident quoted in the report said:

“Residents of the village received the information that bandits were planning to attack them that night, so they ambushed them and God helped them to repel the attack and they killed at least 30 of the bandits.”

He added that was the third time within three weeks that residents would confront gunmen.

Recall that about a month ago, a community in Zamfara state resisted an attack by armed bandits.

Authorities in the state confirmed that villagers in Ruwan Tofa community resisted and killed some of the bandits, who attacked them on Thursday, March 5.

Meanwhile, four bandit leaders on Thursday, April 8 said they have denounced their illegal activities in Katsina state and surrendered 45 rustled cattle, two General Purpose machine guns, 24 AK 47 assault rifles, 109 GMPG ammunition, 95 7.62MM Live Ammunition, among others.

Parading them before the press, the Katsina commissioner of police, CP Sanusi Buba explained that their surrender is part of the Katsina police command’s effort in the ongoing onslaught against criminality in the state.
