Halilu Ahmad Shaba has been confirmed as the director-general of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) by the Senate.

The Nation reports that Shaba's confirmation followed the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Science and Technology at plenary in Abuja.

Legit.ng gathered that the chairman of the committee, Senator Uche Ekwunife, presented the report on Wednesday, April 14, during a plenary.

PM News also reports that the upper legislative chamber approved that Shaba should be confirmed when the recommendation of the committee was put to a voice vote by Senate president, Ahmad Lawan.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday, March 2, transmitted Shaba's name to the Senate for screening and confirmation as DG NASRDA.

The president had enjoined the lawmakers to give his request an accelerated consideration.

Shaba is in acting capacity as DG of the agency following the expiration of the two-term tenure of Professor Seidu Mohammed in June 2020.

Before his appointment as an acting DG of NASRDA, Shaba served in various leadership capacities since joining the agency in 2009.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Prof. Bissallah Ahmed Ekele was reappointed as the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH), Gwagwalada, Abuja.

It was reported that the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported on Tuesday, April 13, that Ekele’s reappointment was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The president stated that the CMD is to serve in the position for another term of four years after a selfless service in his first tenure in office.

In a related report, President Buhari on Monday, March 15, announced the appointment of Professor Bako Mansur Matazu as new the director-general of the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET).

Buhari also approved the appointment of Captain Modibbo Alkali Mahmud as the new rector of the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology, (NCAT) Zaria.
