Insecurity: Army Engages Retirees to Support National Security Operations

Efforts to tackle the rising cases of insecurity in the country have taken a new dimension. This follows the new step of the Nigerian Army in recruiting retired officers.

According to Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, the veterans have crucial roles to play in tackling the insecurity facing the country, The Nation reports.

He disclosed this on Tuesday, April 13, while opening the First Quarter 2021 Veterans Affairs Directorate Workshop in Port Harcourt.

The Army chief who was represented by the Army Chief of Administration, Maj.-Gen. Abdulrasheed Aliyu, said that veterans still had a lot to offer, The Sun reports.

“We decided to engage them considering that Nigeria is currently faced with diverse security challenges, and everybody has a role to play toward securing the country.

“To this end, our retired and discharged personnel also have a role to play, especially at this time when our nation is faced with insecurity."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the Borno government has been urged to repair roads linking major local government areas in the state. The call was made by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru.

Attahiru also commended the governor of Borno state, Professor Babagana Zulum, for supporting the Nigerian Army especially in the area of logistics.

According to him, the governor has helped in enhancing Operation Lafiya Dole. He also said the governor is a big help when it comes to assisting families of fallen troops.

Legit.ng also reported that at least two soldiers were killed following an attack on military operatives on Saturday, April 10, in Damasak town, Borno state.
