Lingard has widely been linked with a shock switch to Emirates at the end of the season following his bright start to life at London Stadium with West Ham United.

The Hammers landed the Man United star on a loan during the winter transfer window, with the Red Devils choosing to offload him to a club he would be assured of game time.

The English forward has since had a spectacular return to form, scoring eight goals and setting up four other in just nine appearances for West Ham.

Reports suggest the David Moyes-tutored club are now desperate to sign Lingard on a permanent deal from Man United at the end of the season.

However, they will now have to contend with competition from the Gunners who are keen to add some spark upfront.

It is understood the club's representatives have already approached United over a possible deal.

Whereas the Old Trafford dwellers would be open to cashing in on the academy graduate, Ferdinand reckons Emirates cannot be Lingard's next destination.

"Yeah but you know what they [Arsenal fans] wouldn’t have him there. The way he moonwalked off that pitch once, they wouldn’t have it. The fans would rip the place apart. He disrespected the Emirates in a way that hadn’t been seen," Rio said when asked about Arsenal's rumoured interest in Lingard.
