President Buhari Makes appointment in Nigeria's Health Sector

- President Buhari has commended Prof Bissallah Ahmed Ekele for his service to the health sector

- Prof Ekele officially assumed duty as acting CMD of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital on July 3, 2017

- Following his reappointment, the CMD's tenure will expire in the next four years

Prof Bissallah Ahmed Ekele has been reappointed as the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH), Gwagwalada, Abuja.

According to PM News, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported on Tuesday, April 13, that Ekele’s reappointment was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The president stated that the CMD is to serve in the position for another term of four years after a selfless service in his first tenure in office.

Buhari urged Ekele to use the responsibility given to him to continue with the development of the hospital and health sector in the country.

In another news, the Nigerian Senate has expressed displeasure over the failure of the executive arm of the federal government to consult it before converting the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 to the new Presidential Steering Committee.

This came when the Senate committee on health chaired by Senator Yahaya Ibrahim Oloriegbe queried Abdulaziz Mashi Abdullahi, the permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, on the government's decision, The Nation reports.

Oloriegbe said the ministry did not meet with and consult the National Assembly before effecting such a crucial transition.

Meanwhile, the wife of the president, Aisha Buhari, has explained her decision to receive treatment at a private clinic when she rejected the idea of going to London after falling ill.

Daily Trust reported that the First Lady in the book: ‘Aisha Buhari: Being Different,’ narrated the state of Aso Rock clinic at the time.

The senior special assistant to the president on administration and women affairs, Hajo Sani, authored the book, which is a biography of the First Lady.

The aide noted that the First Lady has been consistent in warning politicians against politicizing the issues of health and women empowerment.
