Former Nigerian International Names Super Eagles Legend Who Attracted Nigerians to Arsenal

Former Nigerian international Victor Anichebe has claimed that legendary Kanu Nwankwo attracted lots of Nigerians as well as Africans to support Premier League club Arsenal.

In a recent interview with Premier League Productions, Anichebe who was also a product of Arsenal academy stated that Kanu’s skills caught his attention.

During his stint at the England club, Kanu featured in 273 games, scoring 54 goals while providing 29 assists.

Anichebe who expressed delight having played with the legend in the Nigerian senior national team stated that ‘Papilo’ has envious skills. He said via Complete Sports:

“I came into the national team with Kanu, kind of star-struck when I saw him. The long journey he had in his career in the Premier League.
“He got a lot of Africans and Nigerians especially to support Arsenal not just for his performances on the pitch but his Foundation.
“He’s one that we love in our country especially.
“He had an incredible touch for someone so tall, some people say he was lanky but he was deceptively strong as well and his general awareness for the game.
“He had so many other qualities he developed over the course of his career, for me it was a pleasure to train with him.”

Meanwhile, Nwankwo expressed excitement with Arsenal's 2-1 win over North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium.

A goal each from Martin Odegaard and Alexandre Lacazette ensured Eric Lamela's opening strike ended up a mere consolation in the end.

Although Mikel Arteta's men remain 10th on the table with 41 points, the former Super Eagles captain was excited with the bragging rights over their city rivals.

He shared a picture of himself and his better half celebrating the victory with a few choreographed steps.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Former Super Eagles coach Jo Bonfrere was seen alongside ex-Super Eagles stars in a pose with the governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

It was gathered that the governor found the back of the net from the penalty spot in an organized game involving the Kogi State Executive council team and the ex-Super Eagles team.

The encounter which was played at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja ended 1-1.

It had the likes of Austin Okocha, Peter Rufai, Kanu Nwankwo, Tarribo West, Tijani Babangida, Mutiu Adepoju and a host of all ex-internationals who all featured in the star studded game.
