Nigerian Athlete Wins Gold in Taekwondo Despite Being 8 Months Pregnant

The entire National Sports Festival community was stunned when Aminat Idrees bagged gold in the Mixed Poomsae Category of Taekwondo, despite being pregnant.
Aminat who represented Lagos State at the games stunned other athletes as she was reportedly eight months pregnant at the time.
In a footage shared on Twitter, Idrees was seen in different combat techniques as she also picked up other medals in a non-combat simulated category of Taekwondo known as Poomsae.
She told CNN Wednesday that she feels elated by her accomplishment at the event which took place in Edo State.
"It's such a privilege for me. I just decided to give it a try after training a couple of times... It feels really good.
"Before I got pregnant, I have always enjoyed training, so it didn't seem different with pregnancy."
Only recently, one of Nigeria’s all-time athletes, Blessing Okagbare, has been presented with the Guiness World Record as the athlete with the most Diamond League appearances (67).
The 32-year-old personally announced her entry into the Guinness Book of Records as one of the hallowed names there.
In her post on Wednesday morning on social media, Okagbare stated that she feels honoured and really grateful to have been a recipient of such prestigious award.
The track and field queen won a silver medal at the 2018 Beijing Olympic. She also won silver and bronze in the long jump and 200-meter events respectively at the 2013 World Championships held in Moscow, Russia.
The record is for making the most appearances in the IAAF’s Diamond League Meetings.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Nigeria’s London 2012 Paralympic gold medal winner in powerlifting Esther Oyema was banned by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) for failing a doping test.
The announcement was made Wednesday, May 20 on the website of the anti-doping agency.
Onyema reportedly returned positive test for a prohibited substance from a urine sample which was obtained on January 28, 2019, shortly after participating at the Lagos 2019 Lagos 2019 International Para Powerlifting Competition in Nigeria.
