The Blues went into the match off a shock 5-2 defeat suffered in the hands of struggling West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge at the weekend.

However, Thomas Tuchel's men dusted themselves up to get the job done in Seville in the first round of the last eight tie.

Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell found the back of the net in either half of the tie to inspire Chelsea to a crucial win away from home.

Both teams kicked off the match in high tempo in the opening exchanges, with the visitors enjoying more of the ball as they hunted for an opener.

They had a chance to break the deadlock in the 16th minute through Mount, but Porto gloveman Marchesin was up to the task to fend off the threat.

He, however, was unable to stop the Englishman from breaking the deadlock minutes after the half-hour mark, with the Blues forward swiveling a beautiful effort in one smooth moment to make 1-0 - his first in the tournament.

The tie looked set to end in a slim 1-0 win for the west Londoners, only for Chilwell to double the advantage deep in the second half after a defensive blunder by the Portuguese side.

Chelsea will now be looking to get the job done during the second leg which will be played at the same venue - but this time, turning up as the hosts.

A favourable result in the meeting will set them on course to reaching the semis as they hunt for European glory under their new manager.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Marcos Alonso who currently plays for Premier League side Chelsea explained that he is not worried about the rows among the players during and after their home loss against West Brom.

To the surprise of many football fans around the world, Chelsea were beaten 5-2 by West Brom in their last Premier League game over the weekend at Stamford Bridge.

Since Thomas Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard as manager of the Blues, the Stamford Bridge landlords have been impressive in all competitions.
