A lot of couple struggle with fertility issues in marriage and some Nollywood celebrities have had their own fair share. It is one of the common issues many around the globe face.

While it is still considered a taboo topic in some parts of the country, there are some brave Nigerian women having an open conversation about it.

For many women living in the spotlight, their lives often become a thing of intense public scrutiny once they get married.

Just like the typical Nollywood mother-in-law, more people especially on social media often make it their business to question when the children would start to come, earning them the infamous name, 'womb-watchers'.

Following Adesua Etomi and Banky W's mindblowing testimony about their journey towards becoming first-time parents, the conversation about why couples should not be pressured about bearing children has been trending.

However, the star couple wouldn't be the first to go through these issues. Legit.ng has compiled a list of six female celebrities who battled with infertility, many of whom opened up about it.

1. Toyin Abraham

The Nollywood actress earned the name 'mummy Ire' after welcoming her first child with actor, Kolade Ajeyemi.

Toyin had her son through a traditional herbal remedy after battling fertility issues. She also started a business in 2019 after the birth of her son, to help other women with fertility issues also become mothers.

However, the business was shut down shortly after due to what she described as a 'structural disagreement with her partners'.

2. Ufuoma Mcdermott

The beautifully talented actress revealed in 2018 that she had her son through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). She made the revelation to educate people on what it means to be a parent.

The actress shared a post on her Instagram about it and also posted a photo of her son smiling by her side.

3. Stephanie Coker

In March 2020, the media personality took to her social media page to share her IVF experience. The woman posted a video on her YouTube channel to narrate her fertility and conception journey.

Stephanie, who has been married to her husband since 2016 and welcomed her first child in 2019, said that her IVF experience was traumatic and stressful. The young mother explained that she did the procedure in Los Angeles and while there, she decided to take an acting course.

4. Adesua Etomi

The Nollywood sweetheart and her husband, Banky W recently went public with their own struggles conceiving.

The couple who recently welcomed their first child since getting married in 2017, revealed they suffered a miscarriage amongst other things before the arrival of their son.

5. Nse Ikpe-Etim

Nse shared her struggle with fans at a 2020 event tagged Conversation With Nse.

The actress explained that she was diagnosed with a condition called Adenomyosis whereby the inner lining of the uterus breaks through the muscle wall of the uterus. As a result, she had to remove her womb.

6. Funke Akindele Bello

Although the actress/producer remains the only woman on this list who is yet to go public with her childbirth story, the talented actress was reported to have had a fair share of infertility issues including a miscarriage, before the arrival of her twins.

While some reports claimed she had the boys via IVF, others alleged it was through surrogacy.

These women have gone through some of the most difficult periods in the journey towards motherhood, yet they are standing tall and have successfully turned their lemons into lemonade.

These Nigerian stars are also serving as a beacon of hope to other women out there who one day hope to have children of their own, or in some cases, reach a level of self-acceptance by not defining themselves by their ability to bear children.
