COVID-19: FG Receives 100,000 AstraZeneca Vaccines from India as Kogi Begins Vaccination

- The federal government is making progress towards large-scale vaccination against COVID-19 in Nigeria

- The government took delivery of more AstraZeneca vaccine doses from India

- Moreover, vaccination exercise has begun in Kogi state after it received no fewer than 16,900 doses

According to the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 (PTF), the Nigerian government on Tuesday, April 6, got a batch of 100,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses from India.

The disclosure was made in Abuja by the chairman of the PTF, Boss Mustapha who happens to the Secretary-General of the Federation (SGF), Channels TV reports.

Mustapha, as reported by The Cable, said the gesture from India will boost the vaccination exercise in Nigeria by increasing the number of persons to take the jab by at least 50,000.

In a similar development, the same newspaper said the Kogi government has commenced the vaccination in the state about one month after the country started the administration of the jab.

The commissioner for health in Kogi, Haruna Saka, promised residents that while nobody will be exempted from the exercise, the state government will not force anyone to take the vaccine.

Saka noted that the state received about 16,900 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and that another batch of 16,900 doses will be delivered very soon.

Meanwhile, it was reported that more Nigerians would have the opportunity of being vaccinated - thanks to MTN.

The communication giant in its efforts to help the country fight the coronavirus donated 300,000 additional doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines, Mustapha disclosed.

The senior official also called on other partners to contribute to the fight against COVID-19 in the country.

Going further, he revealed that Nigeria might soon get its own vaccine as some scientists had produced two local ones.

Before this, Legit.ng had gathered that the federal government revealed that some Nigerian scientists had produced at least two COVID-19 vaccines which are awaiting clinical trials and certification.
