Attack on State Police Command: Security Beefed up as IGP Arrives Imo

Following the attack on Imo state police command headquarters in Owerri and the Owerri Correctional Centre, the Inspector-General of Police, Muhammad Adamu, is set to visit the state.

As a result of this, security operatives have literally taken over the streets of Owerri, Punch reports.

Recall that the gunmen who freed 1,884 inmates told them “go home, Jesus has risen. You have no reason to be here again.”

They also burnt no fewer than 50 vehicles, after freeing almost all the suspects at the police command headquarters

The IGP would inspect the police facilities that were attacked, The Sun reported further.

The police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the IGP’S visit to the state.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered relevant agencies of the federal government to end what he called “anarchy” in Imo state.

Legit.ng reports that in a statement posted on his Twitter page on Monday, April 5, a presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, said the president condemned what he regarded as the “deadly insurgent attack” that took place on the police command Headquarters and the correctional facility in Owerri, Imo state.

President Buhari called the incident an act of terrorism that must be checkmated at all costs.

In another report, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has disclosed that the attack on the force headquarters in Imo state are members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

In a statement sent to Legit.ng and signed by police spokesperson Frank Mba on Monday, April 5, the IGP noted that initial investigations by the force showed that ESN, a security body recently launched by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was behind the attack.

The statement informed that the police officers in the station at the time of the attack prevented the assailants from gaining access to the armoury to steal weapons.
