Spurs Miss Out On Chance to Go 4th After Disappointing 2-2 Draw at Newcastle United

Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, April 4, missed out on a glorious chance to break into the top four following their disappointing 2-2 draw with Newcastle United at St. James Park.

Jose Mourinho's men thought they had secured all the three points, only for Joe Willock to strike deep in the second half to ensure both sides settle for a point each.

Spurs had to come from a goal down to in their bid to cart home all the three points, having fallen to a Joelinton opener minutes before the half-hour mark.

Harry Kane was the man of the moment for the visitors, with the Englishman netting twice in quick succession to steer his side to victory.

The Magpies had the best chance to score the opener after the ball fell kindly on Joelinton only two minutes into kick-off, only for the Newcastle star to hit a rising drive towards goal which Hugo Lloris had no problem dealing with.

Gayle also went close in the 19th minute after he was set up by Shelvey, but his downward header was brilliantly saved by Lloris.

Vinicius thought he had finally broken the deadlock in the 24th minute, only for his goal to disallowed for an offside.

Joelinton went on to score the opener four minutes later, finishing superbly with sidefoot into the corner from 10 yards after Sean Longstaff slid an inviting pass across him.

However, Newcastle's lead did not last long enough as Kane drew his side level two minutes later, with the star forward stabbing the ball into the empty net from a few yards.

The 27-year-old wasted no time making scoring his second as he capitalised on Tanguy Ndombele's fine pass.

The brace took Kane's away tally to 84 - a feat no other player has achieved for a single club in the history of the Premier League.

However, Arsenal star Joe Willock who is on loan at Newcastle ruined the Englishman's party as he struck five minutes to time to make it 2-2.

Spurs were unable to fightback in the remaining minutes of the match, settling for a disappointing draw as they missed out on a chance to go fourth on the standings.

The north London side now sit fifth with 49 points, on level with sixth-placed Liverpool, and just two behind Chelsea who are fourth.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Man United are on the verge of releasing the number goalkeeper David de Gea in a bid to make Dean Henderson first choice.

The Spanish shot-stopper who currently earns a massive £350,000-per-week could be let go at the end of the season as United look to free up space in their books.
