The north Londoners were without a host of key players for this particular clash, with Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, David Luiz and Granit Xhaka all missing.

However, rather than attribute his side's defeat to the absence of the four important squad members, Arteta has said he is to blame for the weekend result.

The Spaniard admitted he was largely responsible for failing to assemble a proper side to deal with their visitors.

"I accept responsibility for the way we played today. They made the right decisions, we didn’t. It is my fault. I have to set the team up to perform in a different way and that is it," he said.
"I don’t have to use any excuses – that we don’t have five or six players – the standards are much higher at this football club and I have to get them to perform at that level. It was technical as well," he added.

The Gunners boss further noted his side deserved the loss given the Reds were dominant in nearly every department.

Whereas the hosts did manage to keep the reigning champions at bay through the first half, they were unable to deal with Liverpool's tempo after the resumption for the second half.

The introduction of Diogo Jota proved to be the previously missed link, with the Portuguese ace scoring twice to set his side on course to victory.

Mohamed Salah also got into the act as the Merseysiders stormed to a comfortable win that saw them climb to fifth on the league standings with 49 points.

Arsenal, on the other hand, remain rocked in the mid-table in ninth with 42 points after 30 rounds of matches.

They will be looking to make amends for their poor performance when they take on Slavia Praha in their next fixture.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Diogo Jota came off the bench to score twice as Liverpool secured a third straight away win at the expense of a lackluster Arsenal.

In a game where Jurgen Klopp’s men thoroughly dominated, it took them nearly an hour to finally break the deadlock.

Jota powered in a header thanks to a powerful cross from Trent-Alexander Arnold to score within three minutes of replacing Andy Robertson.
