Anambra Commissioner Abducted during Bloody Attack on Soludo Regains Freedom

- A governorship aspirant, Charles Soludo, was recently attacked as he hosted a youth meeting at his home town in Anambra state

- During the attack, a commissioner, Emeka Ezenwanne, was whisked by the gunmen who also shot dead three police officers

- After days in captivity, the commissioner has been set free, sparking jubilation in the community

The commissioner for public utilities in Anambra state, Engr Emeka Ezenwanne, has regained his freedom.

Recall that the commissioner was kidnapped on Wednesday, March 31, when unknown gunmen attacked a venue where the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CB) Prof Charles Soludo was hosting a youth meeting.

Three policemen did not make it out of the venue alive as the armed men sent them to an early grave and made away with the commissioner.

A source who spoke to This Day said:

“I just spoke to the commissioner now. He has been freed, and he is in good health too."

According to the source, the commissioner said no ransom was paid and his abductors treated him well.

It was learnt that the Ezenwanne was freed by his abductors in the early hours of Easter Sunday, April 4.

The Sun reports that massive joy and jubilation erupted across the community following news of the commissioner's release.

After Ezenwanne was kidnapped, the traditional ruler of the town, Igwe (Col) CAO Muoghalu (retd) had invoked the wrath of the land against the perpetrators.

Soludo speaks on the attack

While featuring on a Channels TV programme, Politics Today, on Thursday, April 1, Soludo said he would not like to conclude the attack was ‘politically motivated.

Soludo is a governorship aspirant under the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the forthcoming Anambra 2021 guber election.

He said the DSS, police, army and civil defense were all in his house, adding that he was totally unhurt.

Ohanaeze condemns attack on Soludo

The apex socio-cultural organisation in the southeastern part of the country, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in reaction to the attack, condemned it in its entirety.

The group noted that Soludo's ordeal brings the number of attacks on Igbos to 23 in less than a week.

The national publicity secretary, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, requested that the Buhari-led federal government decentralise the nation's security system by approving state police for effectiveness.
