Chelsea legend Branislav Ivanovic lasted just 13 minutes on his return to Stamford Bridge for the first time since 2017.

The 37-year-old was called on in the 24th minute to replace Dara O'Shea who collided with Kurt Zouma and Matthew Phillips on the right flank.

He was taken off the pitch but that was not enough as he was unable to continue the game, hence, the need for the veteran Serbian defender.

Three minutes after Ivanovic came on, the hosts found the back of the net through Christian Pulisic who tapped in from close range after woodworks denied Cesar Azpilicueta a chance to grab the lead.

The three-time Premier League winner was making an impact when he suffered a hamstring while trying to keep up with Timo Werner.

With the 25-year-old forward running through on goal, Ivanovic used all his experience and quality to try and stop him in his tracks.

The move denied the home team the chance to increase their tally shortly after Thiago Silva was given a second yellow card, and was eventually sent off in the 29th minute.

Although he didn't last long on the pitch, his presence must have inspired The Baggies to victory at Stamford Bridge - handing Thomas Tuchel his very first defeat since he was appointed in January.

Meanwhile, it was a short but sweet return for the Stamford Bridge icon, who won nine major trophies during his nine-year reign at the London club as reported by SunSport.

Two quick goals in the added minutes from Matheus Pereira gave the visitors the lead but it got worse as the away side made it 5-2 in the second half.

Ivanovic played for the Blues between 2008 and 2017, making more than 250 Premier League appearances. During that time he won three Premier League titles and the 2012 Champions League.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Chelsea suffered their first defeat under Thomas Tuchel as a determined West Brom sprung a surprise by hitting them by 5-2 at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues had to play a large chunk of the game with 10-men after Thiago Silva was sent off for preventing a goal-scoring opportunity.

In a game where Sam Allardyce’s men were given virtually no chance, The Baggies’ were surprisingly clinical as a brace each from Callum Robinson and Matheus Pereira helped them to a famous win.
