While quoting Isaiah 53:4-5; he said:

“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes, we are healed.
“The remittance of his blood was the perfect specs for our cleansing.”

According to the senator,

“It takes sacrifice, endurance, and hope to build a great country. This is particularly true in our case, where the challenge is complicated by the diversity of languages and faiths.”
