Super Eagles star Iheanacho reveals why he failed to score in AFCON qualifiers despite his form for Leicester

Kelechi Iheanacho has revealed that he could not score in any of Nigeria's AFCON 2022 qualifiers claiming African football is different from that of Europe, Complete Sports.

The 24-year-old who was named the Premier League Player for the month of March said he will be looking forward to prove himself in the AFCON tournament in Cameroon when he makes his debut.

Iheanacho told Complete Sports:

“African football is not the same as European football. I help my team to play well and win. And if I didn’t score in one game I can in the next game.
”The AFCON is in January and we still have a lot of work to do. Hopefully we put things together, do our work and if I get to be there I will prove myself and do my best.”

Iheanacho missed out in the AFCON competition in Egypt in 2019 but his current form should make him available next year.

The Leicester City forward added:

”The AFCON is in January and we still have a lot of work to do. Hopefully we put things together, do our work and if I get to be there I will prove myself and do my best.”

Iheanacho scored a brace in The Foxes 3-1 win over Man United in the FA Cup quarter-finals as helped his side reached the semi-finals of the competition since 1982.

The former U17and U20 international who described the feat as a great feeling said:

“It was a great feeling and thank God for that. We are now in the semi-finals and we are going to play in Wembley. It is history so hopefully we will get to the final.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that It has all been Kelechi Iheanacho in the month of March for Leicester City as his five goals before the international break won the month's best player.

Iheanacho club and country teammate Wilfred Ndidi celebrated the feat with his compatriot as both players joked about winning the accolade.

In a video posted on YouTube, Ndidi was spotted carrying the plaque for Ihenacho while the striker bragged about deserving the award.
