Why I Turned Down IGP’s invitation, Sunday Igboho Reveals

Two invitation letters sent by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to Sunday Adeyemo, a Yoruba activist popularly known as Sunday Igboho have been rejected.

The Nation reports that Igboho revealed that his security operatives refused to accept the letters due to security reasons.

Igboho in a statement by his media aide, Olayomi Koiki, said the letters were sent on Thursday morning, April 1, to him via a courier service and another around 3 pm with about 15 police officers.

According to the Yoruba activist, he wants to know why the IGP sent him a letter and for what purpose.

While noting that if the police boss wants to invite him, Igboho said Adamu should send the same letter to all the bandits and Boko Haram members, P.M News reports.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Nigeria Police Force reportedly planned to arrest Igboho, over the quit notice he issued to herdsmen in a community in Oyo state.

The inspector-general of police ordered the arrest of the youth leader for his ultimatum to the cattle dealers. A presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu had confirmed the IGP’s order.

Shehu was reported to have said the IGP informed him of his directive to Ngozi Onadeko, the Oyo commissioner of police, to arrest Igboho and transfer him to Abuja.

In another report, the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has distanced itself from the secessionist call being championed by Igboho.

The activist had said Yoruba is no longer part of Nigeria, calling on people of the ethnic group residing in the north to go back home.

However, Kunle Olajide, the secretary-general of the YCE said Igboho does not represent the Yoruba people in his call for secession.
