Gernot Rohr has stated that the Super Eagles will produce a better performance in the World Cup qualifiers than the just concluded AFCON round of matches, Complete Sports.

The series is expected to kick-off in June where Nigeria will play in Group C alongside Cape Verde, Central African Republic and Liberia.

The three-time African champions secured qualification for the 2021 AFCON with two games to spare and Rohr believes his team will play better during the Qatar 2022 qualifiers.

Rohr said:

“The World Cup qualifiers will start soon and I think we will be able to do well.
“Nigerians should expect good football again and on a good pitch I hope. Lagos did very well but they still have to improve especially in the area of traffic.
“It’s going to be a serious World Cup qualification. The record of our results are very good and I know we were unbeaten in all our away games (during the AFCON qualifiers) which is wonderful and very nice.
“We have to continue because we want to be always the best but at the same time you can’t win all your matches.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Tyronne Ebuehi has stated that being left out Super Eagles squad against the Benin Republic was the decision of Gernot Rohr and he respects it, Complete Sports.

Ola Aina was the preferred option in the right-back position as the Nigerian side narrowly defeated the Squirrels by a 1-0.

The three-time African champions booked their place in the AFCON 2022 tournament slated for Cameroon after breaking Benin's eight-year unbeaten home record at the Stade de l'Amitie at Port Novo.

And despite winning the match without Ebuhehi, the Twente defender revealed he is happy to be with the team.
