A former Kaduna lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has explained why he did not go for the option of making calls to the leadership of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) to ensure President Muhammadu Buhari's safety in the United Kingdom.

Sani said he decided not to contact the chairperson of NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa upon recalling what happened to Ike Ekweremadu in Nuremberg, Germany in 2019.

The erstwhile senator disclosed that he would have put a call through to the NIDCOM boss to pacify Nigerians in the UK but decided to send her a WhatsApp message.

He made this claim on his Twitter page on Wednesday, March 31.

His tweet:

"I wanted to ask my Sister Abike to go and sit down with the Diaspora and appeal to them not to embarrass our president; but when I remembered what they did to my Best Brother Senator Ike in Nuremberg, I just WhatsApp to greet her."

Earlier, the All Progressives Congress, the UK chapter, had described as fake news a social media report that some Nigerians had stormed the Nigerian House in London in protest against President Buhari.

The UK chapter of the ruling party was reacting to photos shared by a Twitter user claiming a protest was held in London by Nigerians against the president.

The party also stated that the photos shared were from earlier street processions by Nigerians in London.

Meanwhile, Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers state, had said he won’t travel abroad for medical check-up, boasting that everything he needed for medical examination was in the Government House Clinic built by his administration.

His statement came a day after President Muhammadu Buhari travelled to London for a routine medical check-up.
