JUST IN: After Attack on Soludo, Gunmen Invade Ex-Minister's House in Plateau, Steal Rifles

- Gunmen in Nigeria now have their eyes on the high and mighty

- The criminals have attacked Damishi Sango, a former sports minister in Plateau state

- The police command in the state revealed that the attackers left Sango's house with some guns

The residence of a former minister of sports in Plateau, Damishi Sango, was attacked by gunmen on Wednesday, March 31.

During the attack which took place by 9pm, about two security agents attached to Sango were seriously injured.

Moreover, it was gathered that some rifles were carted away by the criminals

ASP. Gabriel Ubah, the spokesman of the police command in the state, confirmed the ugly development to The Nation.

Although revealing that the former minister and members of his household are safe, Ubah told journalists:

“The command is aware of the incident at Riyom and the victims have been rushed to the hospital where they are receiving treatment.

“I am not aware yet whether they were dispossessed of their rifles. A team of detectives and intelligence officers have already commenced investigation and manhunt for the criminals.”

Recall that another set of gunmen attacked the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Charles Soludo. The attackers killed three police officers guarding him.

The incident took place in Soludo's community, Isuofia, in Aguata local government area of Anambra state during a meeting with the youths of the community.

Eyewitnesses at the event were cited as saying that Soludo was safe but his whereabouts were unknown.

The Anambra state commissioner of police, Sunday Kuryas, confirmed the bloody attack on Professor Soludo who is a frontline aspirant in the forthcoming November 6th governorship election in the state.

Meanwhile, the police command in Akwa Ibom state on Tuesday, March 30, confirmed the death of three officers. It also revealed that it does not know the whereabouts of four others.

The police said the tragedies happened when some officers clashed with hoodlums in the Essien Udim local government area of the state.
