APC Governor's Aspiration Gets Boost as N/Central Legislators Back Zone for 2023 Presidency

- The Forum of North Central Legislators said it is the turn of the geopolitical zone to produce Nigeria's president

- The legislators said they don't the chairmanship position of any party, reiterating that their eyes are on the presidency

- Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello, will directly or indirectly benefit from the position of the legislators as he is the only presidential aspirant from the zone at the moment

Governor Yahaya Bello's presidential ambition has received a great boost as the Forum of North Central Legislators on Monday, March 29, demanded that the presidency be zoned to the region in 2023.

The convener of the forum and former speaker, Niger State House of Assembly, Marata Gumi, made the demand while reading the communique issued at the end of the forum meeting held in Abuja, Vanguard reported.

He said:

“The North Central legislators forum unanimously demand the presidency position come 2023. The position of party chairmanship in all the political parties has been rejected by this great forum. The North Central is not interested in the position of chairman in any political party."

Meanwhile, the Speaker of Kogi State Houses of Assembly, Prince Matthew Kolawole, said the demand of the forum was not about Governor Bello’s 2023 presidential ambition but the interest in the zone.

Nevertheless, he admitted the position of the forum would serve the best interest of the Kogi state governor since he is the only one who has an interest in the race from the zone.

Legislators from Niger, Kwara, Benue and Kogi states attended the meeting while Plateau and Nasarawa reportedly sent messages of solidarity.

In another related development, Olujuwon Obasanjo, former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s son, has reportedly declared his support for the emergence of Governor Bello as Nigeria's president in 2023.

Olujunwo also called on Nigerians to support the Kogi state governor to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

Legit.ng gathers made the appeal when he paid a courtesy visit on Bello in Abuja on Thursday, March 25, according to a statement by the Chief Secretary to the Governor, Onogwu Mohamed.
