Further tests have shown that Alex Iwobi tested negative to COVID-19 as confirmed by the Nigeria Football Federation.

Iwobi was said to have tested positive for coronavirus on March 27, hours before Nigeria face Benin and was consequently out of the cracker.

Upon arrival in Benin Republic, the entire Super Eagles squad underwent the mandatory Covid-19 tests and Iwobi's result was said to be positive.

The AFCON qualifier ended 1-0 in favour of Nigeria after Paul Ouachu nodded home in stoppage-time to stun the hosts who were said to have been hostile to the squad.

Super Eagles media officer Babafemi Raji later disclosed that the Everton of England star had left the squad and will be unavailable for the match against Lesotho on Tuesday, March 30.

“Iwobi has left the camp. Before he left, he did not show any symptoms, he was fine,” Eagles spokesman Babafemi Raji told AFP via Vanguard.

The 24-year-old scored twice during the qualifying campaign for the delayed Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by Cameroon in January next year. And confirming his status, the NFF wrote:

"Update: @NGSuperEagles forward, @alexiwobi has tested negative after further COVID-19 tests were conducted."
