- Insurgency and banditry are part of one big family according to Governor Fayemi of Ekiti state

- The governors' forum chairman also claimed that the proceed from banditry is being used for terrorism

- Meanwhile, he said military action alone cannot solve the problem

Terrorrism and kidnapping are being perpetuated by the same people according to Ekiti state governor, Kayode Fayemi.

The governor said the ransom money being paid for kidnapped victims in the southwest and the northwest are used to fund terrorism in the northeast.

Fayemi, who is also the chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, disclosed this in an interview with State House correspondents in Abuja, Punch reports.

He said:

“There is a direct correlation between insurgency in the North-East and what we are seeing manifesting itself as banditry in the North-West or kidnapping in the South-West.

“Some of the people involved in these are also the ones responsible for insurgency. They are using the resources they make from kidnapping for the activities they are conducting in the Northeast."

Going further, the governor insisted that military action alone would not resolve the nation’s security challenges. He added that the challenges required political will to tackle.

In another report, Doyin Okupe, a former senior special assistant on media and publicity to former president Goodluck Jonathan, expressed serious concern over the way Nigeria is fighting insecurity.

Legit.ng reported that the former presidential spokesman said the country needs to stop using archaic defensive security methods to fight insecurity.

Okupe added that the country had the capacity to fight insecurity which is not too expensive.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that in what will bring about different reactions from Nigerians, President Muhammadu Buhari has been asked to take fast action before things get really bad in the country.
