It was celebration galore for Nigerians after the Super Eagles narrowly defeated Benin by a lone goal in an AFCON qualifier to cement their status as winners in Group L, Twitter.

The three-time African champions had already booked their place in the AFCON 2022 tournament slated for Cameroon.

Maduka Okoye who kept a clean sheet in the game on his fifth cap for the national team showed he is an authentic Nigerian.

Okoye made his international debut for Nigeria in a friendly game against Brazil in October 2019, and has since kept his place in Gernot Rohr's side as the number one.

He made a few clever saves in the game against Benin which kept Nigeria in the game before the late winner scored by Paul Onuachu.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Benin and Nigeria have a rich historical background and the two nations share the same similar cultures due to their nearness to each other.

In a video clip circulating on social media, Benin players were singing the popular Yoruba Christian music 'Kabiyesi o' which is a song used in praising God.

Legit.ng also reported that The much-anticipated AFCON 2022 qualifiers may have suffered a huge setback as reports claim that two Benin players have tested positive for coronavirus.

Renowned sports journalist Charles Anazodo made the revelation on his official Twitter handle as he said:

"Reports from Cotonou says two Benin Republic players have tested positive to Covid-19."
